In partnership with 11 vendor partners, Festival Foods invites veterans to enjoy a special tribute this Veterans Day. On Monday, November 11, veterans visiting any Festival Foods store can receive 12 free products with a minimum purchase of $20, while supplies last. Now in its seventh year, this annual tradition at Festival offers a variety of items, including coffee, pizza and ice cream.
The initiative began in 2018 when Travis Tiedt, a member of the Festival Foods buying team, came up with the idea to honor veterans with complimentary products. “We were aware that many of our vendors are committed to supporting their communities, especially veterans, just like we are,” Tiedt recalled. “We approached Brew Pub, a local pizza vendor, to be part of a Veterans Day promotion. They agreed, and before long, we had nine free products to offer veterans on Veterans Day in 2018.”
Tiedt’s original vision was to provide veterans with “more than a meal,” and the response was positively received. In 2018, the retail value of the free items redeemed by veterans surpassed $100,000, and the program has continued to grow. By 2020, the offer expanded to 12 products, and on Veterans Day in 2023, the complimentary items given to veterans reached a retail value of about $750,000.
